Crypto Race 2026: Altcoins Wake Up, but the Gap Remains Significant

After several rather gloomy weeks, the August 10 checkpoint finally brings some movement back into the Crypto Race 2026.

Bitcoin continues to climb, but this time it is no longer the main beneficiary of the week. Several altcoins posted significantly stronger rebounds.

That said, we should not confuse a weekly rebound with a trend reversal: since our January 3 starting point, losses remain substantial across much of the ranking.

Quick reminder: as since the beginning of the Crypto Race 2026, data is recorded every Saturday at 00:00.

CAT1 — Akash Remains Alone in Front

RankAssetSince January 3WeeklyValue of $1,000
1Akash+24.7%+9.3%$1,247
2TAO-22.3%-0.1%$777
3Bitcoin-28.1%+3.1%$719
4Algorand-30.2%+12.8%$698
5ATOM-38.2%+9.1%$618
6Ethereum-38.9%+2.8%$611
7Osmosis-45.7%+7.1%$543
8Avalanche-53.6%+0.5%$465

The overall hierarchy remains unchanged, but this week's dynamics are much more interesting.

Akash remains the only CAT1 asset still in positive territory since the beginning of the race, at +24.7%. Its +9.3% rebound this week even allows it to extend its lead slightly.

TAO holds onto second place despite an almost perfectly flat week.

Bitcoin gains +3.1% and remains third, but several altcoins clearly outperform it this week.

Algorand posts the strongest CAT1 performance with +12.8%, ahead of Akash and ATOM.

ATOM rebounds by +9.1%, while Osmosis gains +7.1%.

That is not enough to shake up the ranking yet, but after several weeks in which BTC held up better than the rest of the pack, this week's move is clearly more favorable to the alts.

CAT2 — Nolus Wakes Up Sharply

RankAssetSince January 3WeeklyValue of $1,000
1Gnosis-21.5%+1.4%$785
2Nolus-36.8%+22.8%$632
3Band-53.5%+8.5%$465
4Shentu-61.5%+5.7%$385
5Flux-63.5%+0.3%$365
6Lava-88.9%+6.5%$111

The most spectacular move of the week clearly comes from Nolus.

After dropping sharply in July, NLS rebounds by +22.8% in a single week.

Its performance since January 3 therefore improves from around -48.6% to -36.8%.

That still represents a significant loss, but the rebound allows Nolus to consolidate second place in CAT2 behind Gnosis.

Band also gains +8.5%, Lava +6.5%, and Shentu +5.7%.

By contrast, Flux remains almost flat at +0.3% and is still more than 63% below its starting level.

Gnosis remains by far the most resilient asset in this category, at -21.5% since January.

And With Yields?

As every week, rewards gradually improve the results without erasing the underlying market performance.

In CAT1, Akash moves from around +24.7% to +33.2% when estimated rewards are included. TAO improves to around -20.2%, while Bitcoin and Algorand end up almost level at approximately -27.7% and -27.8%.

ATOM also recovers several percentage points, reaching around -32.4%.

In CAT2, Gnosis remains first at around -19.2%, ahead of Nolus at approximately -35.3% and Band at around -47.6%.

For Flux, node yield also meaningfully reduces the loss depending on the node tier operated, although it is still far from offsetting the sharp decline in the FLUX price since January.

Yields therefore continue to play their role: limiting capital erosion. But in a market where some positions have lost between 50% and 90% of their value, they obviously cannot compensate for everything.

Are Altcoins Coming Back?

That is probably the real question this week.

On August 3, we noted that Bitcoin was holding firm while altcoins were losing ground again.

One week later, the picture is almost reversed.

Bitcoin still gains 3.1%, but Algorand, Akash, ATOM, Osmosis, Band and especially Nolus all perform much better.

Still, one green week is not enough to call a trend reversal.

Since January 3:

  • Akash remains the only CAT1 asset in positive territory;
  • Bitcoin remains third despite being down 28%;
  • seven of the eight CAT1 assets are still negative;
  • every CAT2 asset remains in the red;
  • Lava is still down almost 89%.

The rebound is real.

Whether it marks a change in trend remains to be seen.

After a few weeks in which crypto already seemed to have gone on holiday, some altcoins may simply have decided to come back from the beach a little earlier.

Next week, we will see whether they brought the buyers back with them.
